Pet Passports

Dogs, cats and ferrets can now travel to dozens of countries without having to go into quarantine when they return to the United Kingdom - providing they have a PET PASSPORT.

The rules on PET PASSPORTS were designed to keep the United Kingdom free from Rabies and certain other diseases.

To get a passport your pet first needs to be microchipped. As of the 30th June 2011 only a single rabies injection and no subsequent blood test is required. All pets embarking on the process currently will be unable to re-enter the United Kingdom until after the 1st January 2012. After that date only a 3 week delay following vaccination is required. We can arrange vaccination and issue a passport, just phone and book an appointment asking for a passport appointment as they do take a little longer.

To keep your pets passport valid regular rabies booster vaccinations are needed.

Before you are able to re enter the United Kingdom, your pet needs to be treated for ticks and tapeworms. This is done by a vet 24 to 48 hours before the return journey.

Travel advice

Animals travelling out of the United Kingdom will be exposed to diseases not prevalent in Britain.

Many of these diseases are carried by parasites, such as ticks, mosquitoes and sand flies all of which can be prevented.

Please contact us before travelling to make sure your pet is protected, and for specific advice on the countries that you are travelling to.

We will also check your pets microchip before travelling, just phone before coming in.
