Bad teeth and gums are a common problem as pet’s age, causing pain and discomfort to the animal (and often offensive smells for the owner). Dental care advice starts when your puppy or kitten is first presented to the surgery and continues during the regular checks especially at booster vaccinations. We actively encourage owners of young dogs to start brushing their teeth from an early age using animal toothpastes and finger brushes. If the animal does not accept this, then gels, mouthwashes and an oral rinse alongside dental care biscuits and chews are often suggested.
With cats brushing is much harder and dental biscuits or diets may form the only preventive care which is accepted.
We also provide dental care in the form of a scale and polish and extractions if necessary, these are carried out under a general anaesthetic.
